5 Things All Blondes Are Tired Of Hearing

"You're blonde, so you must be dumb."

After 20 years of being blonde, there are just some things I am sick and tired of hearing. I love being blonde and I don't think I will ever want to change my hair color, but I do wish I could walk into an interview and not feel like I have to prove that I'm not dumb because the interviewer already has preconceived notions due to my appearance. I wish that guys didn't just assume that I am easy due to my appearance. All blondes struggle with being stereotyped, so here are 5 things all blondes are tired of hearing.

1. Blonde jokes

I can take a joke. It's just not funny after the hundredth time I've heard the joke. I don't need to hear another joke that goes something like, "How do you sink a submarine full of blondes? You knock on the door." It really is funny at first, and I am not easily offended. I just don't want to hear these kinds of jokes anymore because, frankly, they've gotten old.

2. "You're blonde, so you must be dumb."

I hate that people assume from first glance that I am stupid or lack some amount of intelligence. I have a 3.95 GPA, so I'd say I have some intellect. Some of the smartest people I know are blonde. Hair color has no effect on intelligence. It has even gotten so bad that whenever I meet someone for the first time and say something stupid or get the answer to an easy question wrong, I feel like people will automatically think I'm stupid. I'm human and I should be allowed to forget things without worrying about whether someone might pre-judge me based on my hair color.

3. "Did you dye your hair blonde?"

Why are people, especially brunettes, obsessed with asking me if I dyed my hair blonde? Does it make me less of a person or less beautiful if the answer is yes? Blondes are not superior to brunettes and whether or not I dyed my hair should not make you feel better about yourself. It also does not make me fake. It means I was unhappy with something about myself and loved myself enough to change it to make me happy. If you're really just curious then that's fine too. I'll answer honestly. I have dirty blonde hair naturally and dye it lighter because I don't like my dirty blonde hair color at all. However, if you're going to ask in a snobby, ask-it-with-a-laugh kind of way, then yes, it's completely, 100 percent natural.

4. "You're having a blonde moment."

No, I'm having a human moment, thank you. Everybody makes mistakes, including brunettes and redheads.

5. "Your hair is so pretty!"

I had to include at least one nice comment. To be honest, I hear a lot more compliments about how my hair looks than jokes about how my hair color makes me dumb. I don't know if this is because society is starting to recognize that not everyone fits his or her stereotype or because people get nicer as they grow and mature. It seems as though people have stopped underestimating blondes as much as they used to. We still have a long way to go, my blondie beauties, but I think we're starting to destroy the dumb blonde stereotype.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
