Inscribed on the statue of Liberty on the shore of New York Harbor, Lady Liberty has been and continues to be a symbol of hope to many across the globe.

“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the Wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me; I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Lady Liberty was a gift from France to the United States. Designed by the French sculptor, Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and it was built by Gustave Eiffel. The statue was to symbolize the idea of American liberty.

American history is a history of immigration. Since the beginning there has always been waves of immigrants from Spanish, Dutch, French, English, Germans, Eastern Europeans, to Africans, Indians, Asians, and the list goes on and on.

The United States was and continues to be built on the backs of immigrants. From Transcontinental railroad that brought many Asians from China and Mexico to work the dangerous job of installing the first railroad in the United States — which allowed for western expansion — to the immigrants that grow and pick our foods in farms, providing us with affordable produce at the grocery store.

Immigrants continue to take the dangerous jobs just to feed their families, they continue to open small businesses, they continue to be our doctors, and they continue to work within the STEM fields.

Keeping American innovation strong and globally competitive. The influx of immigrants is part of being American, and it is what gives us our American standard of living.

It is immigration that makes America Great, and that continues to make America Great.

President Trump’s recent remarks, “why are we only bringing people from ‘shithole’ countries?” is not surprising given his record of retort towards minority communities in the United States.

However, these remarks help illuminate and support what many Americans have said about the President, that he holds old racist views about the world and minorities, whether they are American or not.

Also, his comments also reveal his lack of knowledge in American and world history.

But even with President Trump’s racist remarks, The Statue of Liberty will continue to evoke hope to many across the world.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
