Google 'Daddy Issues' and Urban Dictionary pops up with this lovely definition: "When a female has a bad relationship with her father or a father that walked out on her, causing her to seek male attention (be a slut)." Are you kidding me?

I happen to have an absolutely wonderful relationship with my dad. He's the typical 'American Dream' guy that started at the bottom, found the love of his life, and worked his way to the top with his happy little family by his side. Did this help shape me into the person I am today? Of course. If he had been a different sort of man, could that have affected how I act now? Undoubtedly, but you can't just peg a stranger sitting at bar as someone with obvious 'daddy issues' who will probably suck your dick in the bar bathroom if you can guess her favorite drink (probably anything with tequila). That's just ridiculous.

The first time I heard this term used in casual conversation, I ignored it. The second time I heard it, Barney Stinson from 'How I Met Your Mother' was hunting for this 'type' of girl so I hoped it was just a joke, laughed and shrugged it off. Now that I am in college, we have greatly surpassed the third, fourth and fifth time of my hearing this term used. I am at the point where I am shocked and disgusted at how often guys seek out 'girls with daddy issues' and how men will treat women who fit the stereotype.

News Flash - A crop top is not an indicator that my dad walked out on me and that liking a couple of pictures on my Instagram is going to be all the effort you need to put in, in order to bang me. The girl with the tattoos might actually just appreciate the beauty of body art. The one taking shots with her friends might actually be here for a 'GNO' and wants nothing to do with you. Yet somehow, these are all characteristics of a girl with 'daddy issues' that signifies to men that they are easy prey for their 'one night stand' endeavors.

Having underlying family issues is emotionally draining and a private matter that should never be exploited. No man should make it his goal to fill that void for the night. That's not ok. How a girl dresses or acts is not an immediate indicator that she has any family-related baggage. YUP, some girls are just slutty because they really like sex. Daddy has nothing to do with it. Meanwhile, just because someone's dad walked out on her, doesn't mean she's easy. It's quite possible she's more the type to wait until marriage, but is just a huge fan of bodycon dresses. So if this term and the meaning/implications behind it could just die out, that would be great.
