No matter what your relationship scenario is with this person, the "independent girl," is a unique find. This type of girl is difficult to find in today's culture; young women are constantly being pressured to find relationships and develop a dependency on another person. For people who do not relate to this independent personality, things can become difficult when the two differences intertwine. When dealing with a self-sufficient girl, there are some things to remember:

1. She doesn't care any less

Just because she doesn't constantly communicate with you all day, does not mean she cares any less. Independent girls are capable of surviving the day without constant communication, and in fact will be happier if they can focus on the task at hand without interruptions. She is a very focused and driven person. She may be so driven in her current day's work that she can't constantly show you affection and attention, but I promise you she still cares.

2. She needs her space

You will not find this type of girl becoming clingy and begging to spend every day with you. In fact, if you demand this of her, it will be the quickest way to drive her away. Remember, she didn't become independent overnight, she has been on her own for awhile and probably not adjusted to having someone around all the time. Time alone is crucial for her to maintain her happiness. Take note: her wanting time alone does not mean she wants time away from you.

3. Her life will never center around a relationship

She has goals, values, friends, hobbies, and a social life. I'm not saying that you are not important, but you are not her entire life. You each have separate lives, and you should maintain those aspects unique to you both even though you have a relationship. Relationships do not limit people, they open up new doors if fully understood.

4. She wants you to have your own life

As previously stated: the independent girl will not be clingy, nor does she want you to be. If you center your entire world around her, she will become exhausted. She wants you to achieve your goals, have a night out with your friends, and do whatever makes you happy. Pursuing your own set of goals and inspirations, inspires her to be successful in her own.

5. She can take care of herself

This girl does't need you to constantly hold her hand. She has been on her own for awhile, and is perfectly capable taking care of herself. In fact, running errands and late night food runs by herself is something she enjoys. She will let you know when she needs you, and there will be times when she does.

6. Do not ask her to change

This is impossible for her to do. Nor should you want to change her unique independent personality. She will always be the single-minded person she is, nothing will change that.

7. She is committed and loving

She gave up one of her most important values to be in a relationship with you. She may not always show her love and caring qualities towards you, but they are there. Giving up her independence is one of the biggest sacrifices she can make, and she won't give it up for just anybody. You are obviously very important to her, and even when she is distant, she really does care about you.

It takes a special person to deal with the independent girl. She is not like the other girls, and values herself and personal life. Remember that you will not be the center of her world, she can be stubborn, and requires patience from your end. However, she will be worth all your efforts, and you will never find a more committed and loving girl, than the independent one.
