A Single Girl's Guide To Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day, as we all know, is the day dedicated to celebrating love, or as us single ladies like to call it, the most depressing day of the year. Being single isn't easy, especially around Valentine's day, but instead of spending the day burying yourself in tears and tissues, spend the day loving yourself. You are not lonely. You have yourself (the best company one could possibly have) and you have your incredible friends. You can have a great or even better day than all of the couples out there.

1. Make it a productive day with a morning workout.

Wake up, make a refreshing fruit smoothie, throw in some kale/spinach to make it super healthy (that's a thing, right?) and head off to the gym. Working out will make you feel extremely good. After a solid workout, you'll feel refreshed, productive and ready to take on the day.

2. Splurge on brunch at your favorite restaurant.

You worked off a lot of calories with your morning work out, so eating a huge brunch with all of your favorite foods is completely justifiable. Bite into comfort and happiness with the wide range of beloved brunch foods you have to choose from on this beautiful planet.

3. Go shopping, because shopping is always the answer.

Unless it's coffee--then, always choose coffee. You could get coffee while you shop; now, that would be a real treat. There is no greater therapy than retail therapy. Treat yourself to the items you've been daydreaming about for weeks. Designer bag? Clothes that aren't from Forever 21? Sephora shopping spree? Go for it. Nothing boosts your mood more than spoiling yourself. Stop by a flower shop on your expedition and buy yourself a dozen roses. There's nothing wrong with being your own Valentine because who knows how to make you happy better than yourself?

4. Indulge in spa activities.

Your level of stress is exceeding maximum capacity and you're about to combust. Get a massage, facial and/or mani-pedi. Get pampered. Allow yourself to be the most relaxed you've ever been in your entire life. Let all of your worries slip away. If you're too lazy to locate a spa in your vicinity, pamper yourself. Draw a bubble bath, wear a mud mask and paint your nails while listening to some soothing ocean sounds. Hakuna matata.

5. See the movie “How To Be Single.”

It's like this movie was made specifically for you! It would almost be wrong if you didn't go see it. With Rebel Wilson and Leslie Mann, you know it's bound to be hilarious. If you maxed out your credit card while shopping and don't want to spend any more money, watch "The Other Woman" instead. It's a great movie to see when you're single AF and want to behold some perfectly executed revenge plans. Unfortunately, Netflix doesn't have this movie available for streaming (come on, Netflix). If you don't own it, watch it online or borrow the DVD from a friend.

6. Buy a dog because their love is unconditional.

An excuse to buy a dog? It's exactly what you've been waiting for! It's almost impossible to be around a dog and not smile. Dogs are loving. They are always there if you need a paw to cry on. Many dogs out there are looking for a little love, and you can give them that. The dog will make you happier and you will make the dog happier. Happiness for all, folks. Make the impulsive decision. No regrets.

7. Make yourself dinner because you deserve a home cooked meal.

Give some of the overflowing love in your heart to something that truly deserves it: your stomach. Buy a ton of groceries and get cookin'. Attempt to make the most delicious looking/sounding meals on your Pinterest board. Pinterest fails are abundant, but you're single and it's Valentine's Day--you can do anything.

8. Eat way too many chocolate covered strawberries.

"This might very well be the best [chocolate covered] strawberry in the whole world. You wouldn't know because you're not gonna eat it." Well said, Troy Bolton, well said. What's Valentine's Day without chocolate covered strawberries? Make them. Buy them. Do whatever it takes to get your hands on these delicious bad boys.

9. Go out with your friends.

Calling all single ladies, it's time to party! Recruit all of your single friends and have the best girls' night out of your lives. Convene at someone's apartment to do each others' hair and makeup. Put on your favorite going out clothes, and make it a night to remember. Dance until your knees give out.

10. Don't forget to load up on Valentine's chocolates and candies when they go on sale!

It would be a shame if all of that chocolate went to waste.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
