Trump And The 2016 Race: A Second Opinion
Business Insider

I've been following presidential campaigns since I was old enough to process such information. My parents made it a focal point to make sure that we were always aware of what was going on in the world, and that started with knowing what was going on up on capital hill. Recently, however, as I watched America's politics turn into a reality TV show, I had to really sit back and analyze this race more so than any other race I've ever followed. Hello, My name is Mingo Allen, and this is the Wake Up Call on Odyssey News at 11, featuring special guest click bait. If you read the title of this article thinking that you were going to read about the many great points of Trump and the 2016 race from the eyes of a black college student, I'm sorry to inform you that this is not such an article, but rather an attempt to help the American people realize we are being yo-yoed on an endless peak-and-valley campaign trail designed to keep us distracted.

There was a time when people would say that, “It would be so funny if Trump actually gets a shot at being President!” Now here we are. He is the Republican Presidential candidate. His policies? Deport foreign people, keep our jobs domestic, make America great again. His bank account? Sufficient enough to campaign without assistance. His following? Gaining legitimate support and people who actually stand behind his rhetoric. Last but certainly not least, his political style? Aggressive and cut throat, almost attack dog-like. He says and does what he wants because he has the money and social leverage to do so.

You now ask me, “Why does any of this matter?” I'll tell you why in one word: interdependency. It is asinine to think that a foreign diplomat with any sort of national pride would even entertain Trump's tirades. There is a reason that presidents have speech teams and public relations representatives. It's all about how you say something and not what you say in politics. Both are important, but if I say, “In light of the severe threat to America and in the wake of recent terrorist attacks, we will proceed to do what it takes to ensure our homeland security,” or “You bomb us, we bomb you. Hope you like atomic sprinkles,” which one is going to cause more problems? The former says we have options to resolve this while the latter says it's time to die. Now, cut-throat politics may work in your school's Student Government Association. You may be able to talk to Chris recklessly because his only political leverage is the Latin Club, but you can't land Air Force One in the Middle East thinking that things are going to be light-hearted when you're back home screaming deport Muslims. These are facts.

Now you say, “Okay Mingo, who cares? Everyone says he's radical. You're wasting my time.” Okay, I said that to say: you've been punk'd. Or, in the words of everyone's favorite motivational speaker DJ Khaled, “Congratulations, you played yourself,” if you really think even for a second that Trump will really be president. You either (A) don’t want a black man or woman telling you what to do or (B) really have no plausible grasp on how politics work in an interdependent world. Unflare your nostrils and stop lying to yourself. I'm not going to beat you up for your views. I'm just letting you know that I know and that it is an insult to my intelligence to say that this isn't one of the reasons people are so gung-ho for the Trump campaign.

This is a setup to make Hillary's victory a landslide because America can't let history write itself. We, as we always have been, must be in complete control. Hillary's scandals and controversies were long discussed in the board room back before her candidacy was even in the rumor mills, and America already has race and gender issues. An 80-year-old GOP member would have run her off the ballot simply because men don't want a woman telling them what to do and any little thing would have disqualified her as a potential leader of the free world. It’s the cold, hard truth.

So, you get a man who flat out doesn't care about what any of you think because he's so rich he could buy you himself (figuratively speaking), turn his cynical business tactics and attitude into a platform of cut-throat politics, and put him up against a former first lady who also happens to have a current president in her corner and a good bit of foreign relations experience under her belt (controversies aside; that's politics people).

What about Bernie, you ask? Bernie was a technicality. The party needed to make it at least look fair, so they gave Bernie the green light just to keep the political pot brewing in the "spirit of fair politics" only to let his platform collapse like they knew it would; then hit old Bernie with the, "You can't beat us, join us," one-two jab of campaigning, and there goes another endorsement. The media tries to play political manipulation off as a logical fallacy and a realm for conspiracy theorists, but it's only to keep the country from spiraling into complete chaos.

You now realize that this plan has been in place arguably since 2008 when President Obama took office. It was the next step of the Democratic Party. Think of it as the ultimate political trifecta. First, you get the first African-American president in office, then you get the first two-term Democrat since Kennedy, and ice your cake with the first female president of the United States. Politics isn't like the lottery, it's calculated. We are thinking about the next four years, they are thinking about the next 12 to 16. Watch any recent State of the Union, and President Obama will reference plans that will be carried out, "over the next decade." That means that the party has been quietly working to ensure it's tenure. They operate under the perception that they will maintain control.

It's too early to say whether Hillary will have the mental and intestinal fortitude to withstand the shenanigans and walls of resistance that await at the top of Capitol Hill in order to see a second term. One thing is for sure though: she will be the first female president. America can fight, America can pitch a fit, America can raise campaigns to keep Hillary out of office, but at the end of the day, this charade that we call United States politics will move heaven and Earth to see to it that she's in the Oval Office. The sooner people realize that the sooner we can quit turning our 2016 presidential race into a senseless spectacle.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
